About Us

Kyokushin Karate Nakamura Indonesia is one of the most active martial arts organizations in the country. Established December 18, 2017, we promote Kyokushin, a system of Karate developed by Sosai Masutatsu Oyama back in the mid-20th century.

What is Kyokushin?

Meaning “The Ultimate Truth”, Kyokushin is a strike based, stand-up full contact karate system that emphasize on physical toughness, conditioning, discipline and self improvement. Sosai Mas Oyama named his system Kyokushinkai due to its hard-hitting, practical style and the name was formally established back in 1957, four years after opening his own karate dojo in Tokyo, Japan.
Kyokushin has its roots in traditional Okinawan Karate notably Shotokan and Goju-Ryu as Sosai Mas Oyama has previously trained in these two styles. Many katas in Kyokushin Karate are based on both systems, but Sosai Mas Oyama also has developed his own katas and modified versions of existing katas into Kyokushin. But unlike most traditional Okinawan Karate which focuses on self defense and discourages sparring, Kyokushin on the other hand highly emphasize on sparring. Fighting or kumite is an integral part of its training system and combination techniques, both offensive and defensive are taught to improve the skills of the practitioner.
Unlike the point system of most sport-based martial arts, Kyokushin has a knockdown system in which, the fighter wins by either knocking down the opponent or showing aggression.
Because of these aspects, it has earned the title of “The Strongest Karate” and has attracted practitioners from around Japan and all over the world. Several Kyokushin practitioners have fought in major mixed martial arts tournaments such us George St. Pierre, and have contributed to the further recognition of this Karate system.
